Ericka Lee says she has the text messages to prove that the rapper acknowledged her significant contribution.

Last year, hip hop superstar Drake released a song, “Marvin’s Room,” that quickly went viral and prompted various remixes by fellow artists intrigued by the depiction of a young woman on a phone call as the rapper drunkenly croons, “You could do better.”

Now, Ericka Lee, revealing herself to be Drake’s ex-girlfriend, has stepped up, saying she was the voice on the other end of the phone call. The woman is now suing Drake for excluding her from sharing co-writer royalties on one of his biggest recent hits.

Lee filed the lawsuit on Thursday in California federal court claiming the two had a romantic and business partnership between early-2010 and mid-2011. During the relationship, the two are said to have traded poems and song lyrics and discussed joint creative projects.

Last year, Drake allegedly agreed to work with Lee on “Marvin’s Room” and split the proceeds. Lee says she was asked to record the song’s “hook” as well as the opening monologue that would serve as the thematic framework for a song about Drake’s yearning for an ex-girlfriend and how his fame interfered with his love life. “Plaintiff’s contribution is highly significant to the overall work,” says the complaint.

Drake supposedly acknowledged Lee’s contributions in text messages sent to her. One read, “U basically made that song.” Another read, “It’s s–t without you.”

Drake purportedly gave Lee credit as a “vocalist” on the song as “Syren Lyric Muse.” Additionally, the parties are said to have registered the sound recording at the U.S. Copyright Office. On July 11, Lee made a claim there, saying “My works and voice are used on this work.” About six weeks later, Drake’s label, Cash Money Records made its own claim, saying that the song authored was an “employer for hire.”

Lee reports that after the song was released, their relationship ended and got ugly fast. The two discussed meeting in Los Angeles, but it never happened. According to the complaint, Drake later sent a text message to Lee that offered her 2 percent of “publishing royalties.”

By November, Lee hired a lawyer, which allegedly caused Drake to make threatening phone calls. “What the f–k is your problem?” he said to her, according to the complaint, then offering her “4-5%” of publishing monies plus a $50,000 payout to go away.

Instead, Lee has filed a lawsuit over “Marvin’s Room,” which has been viewed more than 39 million times on YouTube. She demands a judge declare her as co-writer of the song. She’s also seeking damages and disgorgement of profits on allegations of breach of fiduciary duties and unjust enrichment. Lee is represented by Neville Johnson, who previously filed a lawsuit against Drake on behalf of a Playboy Enterprises for sampling an unauthorized sound recording it owned on “Best I Ever Had.”

Drake couldn’t be reached for comment.

Iggy Azalea is getting a co-sign from the King. The Atlanta rapper will executive produce the Aussie newcomer’s upcoming debut.

“I’m working with a different production company for my album than what I did for my mixtape [Ignorant Art], and I don’t know who yet,” Iggy told MTV News. “I’m still looking. T.I.’s gonna be helping me with it, kinda like A&Ring, kinda like executive-producing.”

The 21-year-old rapper, who recently signed to Interscope Records, explained how she linked up with Tip. “He called me up and was like, ‘Please.’ And I was like, ‘Definitely. You’re Tip. I love you, of course.’ So he’s gonna be kinda helping me out, like just kinda reaching out to people and helping me find production and pointing me in the direction of things that I might like.”

They plan to get in the studio next week. “We’re gonna start on that next week together. I’ll probably fly out to Atlanta and we’ll do it in between there because he’s weird with traveling and stuff. I understand. We’re in touch with each other. I have legal issues, he has legal issues. I get it. So hopefully that will be really dynamic and it’ll help speed things along.”

Iggy is eyeing a summer release for her debut The New Classic. “Hopefully if all goes to plan, my album will be out in June and I’ll have it recorded by the end of the month.”

Don’t expect Rick Ross to switch his hustle just because Mercedes-Benz discontinued its luxury Maybach vehicles. Rozay, who named his Maybach Music Group after the expensive line of cars, will continue to pump out music through his MMG record label.

“I think, just that level of luxury is just inspiration for people who started, like myself, who just looked and fantasized,” Ross told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway while on a Miami video set this past weekend. “I look at it as it makes the brand even more exclusive now. I think the cars are going to become even more expensive now, so everybody who has one, hold on to it for a little while.”

Ross started repping for the high-end Mercedes on his 2008 sophomore album Trilla when he collaborated with Jay-Z on “Maybach Music.” He has since gone on to take ownership of the Maybach brand, at least as far as hip-hop is concerned. In 2011, Ross took his Maybach Music Group imprint over to Warner Music Group and has since launched the career of Meek Mill and reintroduced Wale to the rap world with his sophomore album Ambition. The crew all wear MMG chains and shout out Maybach at every instance, making them quite the force in today’s rap scene.

When Diamler announced in November that they’d be discontinuing the Maybach model, which fetched anywhere from $350,000 to more than $1 million, many wondered how that would affect the Rozay’s MMG label. Fans need not worry, the Bawse will not be shifting gears. Maybach Music is here to stay, he says.

“When we say Maybach Music, it’s not about the car, it’s just about the level of quality and the time that we put into the sound and that was just a way to express it where people could really understand it,” he said. “We done got a lot of love, so shout out to everybody that support double M-G.”

Young Money star Drake has clarified online hype he created off a line from his “Stay Schemin’” record and said a reference to NBA star Kobe Bryant’s divorce was not a shot toward his wife.

Drizzy said his lyrics about losing a lump sum of dollars to a woman on the basis of marriage was not a diss toward Vanessa Bryant.
“That line came from a conversation about being this young and making this much money and the fear of losing it all. I just used his potential situation to address my own life. I never intended to offend Vanessa or anyone else. That line had everything to do with me and what goes on in my head as a 25 year old man with this much income flowing in. Kobe is and always will be a friend and an icon to me.”
